Not dead yet!
Rather enjoying the early-summer weather, actually. Even if it does mean leaving all my windows open so my apartment doesn't try to overheat itself. This has meant that the past few days, I've been awakened by the loud cooing of pigeon(s?) on the little roof outside my front windows. The cats find this of interest, of course, leading me to suppose that the pigeon is unobservant, stupid, or sadistic. "Ha-ha! I can sit out here and coo, and you can't do anything about it!"
(Sadistic Pigeons: good band name y/n?)
Have not yet found a new job, but I remain optimistic. Headhunter 1 made very nice enthusiastic noises at me, and Temp Agency A1 has already called asking if I'd like them to send my resume for a particular job.
(Temp Agency A2, on the other hand, told me I needed to fill out an on-line application. On-line application told me that my SS# already exists in the system, and I need to go back to the office. Pfft.)
And today I went in for a preliminary interview for a job in the same building as Old Job. Sadly, preliminary interview did not go anywhere: I don't care how fool-proof your formula is, I am not for a sales job. On the bright side, I got the chance to stop by Old Job and say hi. They were all very nice and cheerful to me. Heh.
Handbells are finished for the summer, after a stirring final performance at the Boston Handbell Festival last Tuesday. (Which I totally did not advertise. Er. Sorry?) Five choirs including ours. The other choirs performed things like the William Tell Overture, or "Sweet Caroline" (complete with segues off into "Take Me Out To The Ballgame"). Our choir? Well, we were playing the theme to "Pirates of the Caribbean," and "I Am The Very Model Of A Modern Major General," and took it so blithely over the top (costumes! pirate flag! swoofty hats! our director dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow! finishing up with hoisting a picture of Queen Victoria and shouting GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!) that the director of the next choir to perform grumbled at us. Then again, that was the choir that played William Tell, so I don't know what their problem was. :-D
Have viewed the apartment that
sylverice2 and
thesilentpoet want to lure me into sharing. Did not instantly love it as they did, but it's a beautiful apartment in a beautiful neighborhood. Still waffling, although slightly less now that I know the job at Old Work Building is a wash. I have the morbid suspicion that half of my reluctance is sheer inertia. Moving is such a pain.
Latest fannish amusement: DETECTIVE CONAN (also known as CASE CLOSED, for reasons best known to Funimation). Nearby library has large quantities of the anime, and the mysteries are good enough that it's my current brain candy.
The general premise is kind of silly, granted. Genius teenage detective is shrunk to a child by Evil Criminal Organization! Now-child detective must find a way to regain himself, without letting anyone know who he is, because Evil Criminal Organization might take steps! All this in between solving crimes, of course. Murders, usually. Boy has a worse track record than Jessica Fletcher. But for all there's a fair amount of 'stunt' problems/solutions, it doesn't come off too contrived.
The real bemusement is from the trailers, especially the trailers you can't avoid at the beginning of the disc. Dragonball Z? What the hell does a classic shonen anime (complete with fights and power-ups galore) have to do with a mystery series? Do they really think that only guys watch mysteries? Seriously, out of the dozen or so DVDs I've watched over the past few weeks, only one so far hasn't had DBZ for the unavoidable opening trailer. And that one had Tenchi Muyo: Galactic Police Transporter (ETA: confirmed!), with every emphasis put on T&A and huge robots.
On the other hand, the Yuu Yuu Hakusho trailer amused me, mostly because I've been noodling around the edges of that fandom again, and the ongoing debate about Kurama's characterization. To paraphrase the trailer as best I can: "I've always had two personalities -- Minamino Shuuichi, the good son, and Kurama, fighter for good. But now a third personality has emerged: Youko Kurama, with his dark past. One of these personalities will fail - but which one? Or more than one?" Way to play into the fanon, dear dub-trailer-people!
